It was something to see Obama compare Montana and Illinois as coal states and then rave about how pretty the landscape is. OK, Obama, geography lesson. Missoula is in the western part of Montana. Specifically along the Clark Fork River. Mountain ranges surround Missoula. Such as the Bitterroots, The Cabinets, etc. It was logging country for many years. The largest pulp mill in the world at one time was in Missoula. The coal country is in the Southeastern part of Montana. In what we call the Powder River Country. It is not as scenic to youas it is rolling prairies interspersed with short mountain ranges like the Wolf Mountains. It is also cattle and wheat country.
I grew up in Montana along the Old Great Northern Hi-Line in Havre and Malta. When I was in school, we actually learned about the state we lived in. This included the history, geography and economy of the state.
I myself have a shirt-tail relative whose name is on the marker and in the mass grave under it. His name, Richard K. Dorn. US 7th Cav. I go deep in that part of our nation, so in short, Do Your Homework.
